Why We Love This Journey

Adventure the whole family shares

What makes this family safari a once-in-a-lifetime experience for every age.

1

Hippos on the Lawn

Governors' Loldia House sits on a private ranch where hippos graze outside your window after dark and fish eagles call from the lake. A gentle, magical introduction to the African bush for children and parents alike.

2

Walk & Cycle with Wildlife

Hell's Gate National Park is one of the few reserves where families can walk and cycle among zebra, giraffe, and buffalo — an active adventure that gets children out of the vehicle and into the landscape.

3

Scenic Flight to the Mara

A light aircraft flight over the Great Rift Valley connects Naivasha to the Maasai Mara — an exhilarating journey that doubles as a scenic highlight and a thrilling experience for children of every age.

4

Big Cats at Close Range

Governors' Camp sits in one of the Mara's most wildlife-rich corners. Two days of game drives deliver exceptional chances of seeing lion, cheetah and leopard — the moments children remember forever.

5

The Mongoose Club

At Governors' Camp, children can join the Mongoose Club for fun, educational activities curated by expert guides — tracking, bush craft, and nature journaling designed to bring the safari alive through young eyes.

6

Family Rooms That Work

Interconnecting rooms at Loldia House and a two-bedroom Family Tent at Governors' Camp keep everyone close — with private lounges, shared decks, and enough space for parents to breathe after lights out.

Your Journey

Day-by-day safari itinerary

Seven days designed for families — adventure, discovery and comfort at every turn.

Day1

NairobiArrival & The Fairmont Norfolk

Welcome to Kenya. Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you will be met by our representative and transferred to the Fairmont The Norfolk. Depending on your arrival time, there may be an opportunity for the family to visit the Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage or meet the long-legged residents at the Giraffe Centre — a wonderful introduction to the wildlife encounters ahead.

Alternatively, settle in and enjoy the hotel's swimming pool.

Day2

Lake NaivashaNairobi to Governors' Loldia House

After breakfast, your family adventure begins with a scenic two-hour drive to Lake Naivasha. Your base for the next three nights is Governors' Loldia House — a beautifully converted historic farmhouse set on a private six-thousand-acre ranch. The Family Room features interconnecting double and twin rooms, allowing you to keep your little ones close while retaining privacy.

Perhaps begin with a boat safari on Lake Naivasha — set against the backdrop of Mount Longonot, the lake is the highest in the Great Rift Valley and home to pelicans, fish eagles, and hippos.

Day3

Lake NaivashaHell's Gate, Forest Walks & Night Safari

A day of activities tailored to all ages. Visit the local community, take a guided walk through Eburu Forest searching for primates, or let the children run free with a geology lesson at Hell's Gate National Park — one of the few parks where walking and cycling among wildlife is encouraged.

As evening falls, an optional night safari adds a thrilling dimension to wildlife spotting — and if you are lucky, you may glimpse the elusive leopard. Back at the house, hippos often graze on the lawn after dark.

Day4

Lake NaivashaLake Nakuru Day Trip or Ranch Adventures

Today offers the chance to venture further afield to Lake Nakuru National Park. Though one of Kenya's smallest parks, it harbours an impressive range of wildlife — black and white rhinoceros, zebra, Rothschild giraffe, and over four hundred and fifty bird species, including occasional flocks of pink flamingos.

Alternatively, stay closer to home and explore the ranch on horseback or by mountain bike — the pace is entirely yours to set.

Day5

Maasai Mara National ReserveBush Flight to Governors' Camp

After breakfast, take a light aircraft flight from Lake Naivasha to Governors' Camp — an exhilarating journey over the Great Rift Valley that doubles as a scenic highlight. Your home for the next two nights is set on the banks of the Mara River in one of the most wildlife-rich corners of the reserve.

The two-bedroom Family Tent is connected by a private lounge area, with an outdoor deck where warthogs and elephants are frequent visitors. After settling in, head out on your first thrilling game drive.

Day6

Maasai Mara National ReserveBalloon Safari, Mongoose Club & Stargazing

For families with children over the age of eight, an optional hot-air balloon safari makes a magical start to the day. The early rise is rewarded with an aerial perspective of the Mara before touching down for a bush breakfast.

During the day, children can join the Mongoose Club for fun, educational activities curated by expert guides. There is time for another game drive before returning to camp for dinner. After dark, gather around the crackling campfire as your guide points out the constellations through the telescope.

Day7

End of TourBush Flight to Nairobi · Departure

After breakfast, bid farewell to the staff and animals at Governors' Camp and fly back to Nairobi for your onward journey — or continue to the Kenyan coast for a beach extension.

From hippos on the lawn to big cats on the plains, this is the family safari that turns first encounters with Africa into stories told for generations.
